Zucchini ‘Black Beauty’ – Cucurbita pepo Dark green fruits about 6-8 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. A firm, yet tender and creamy white texture at most stages of harvest.
SOW seeds outdoors after danger of frost has passed or indoors 3 to 4 weeks before planting out. Plant seeds ¾ inch deep and space to about 2 feet apart, as plants can get very large.
HARVEST fruit when they have reached their desired size. A zucchini of about 2 inches in diameter will have a good firm texture, but if allowed to grow too large it will become pithy.
TIPS Use a floating row cover to increase temperatures, quicken growth, and protect young plants from pests. Harvest and eat both the male and female blossoms as well for a unique treat (male blossoms form on the end of a stem, while female blossoms form on the end of a fruit).
